 Houston is 6-1 against the Mariners this year and 24-2 (.923) in the series since the start of last season. That would be the best record by any team against a given opponent over a two-year span (minimum 20 games) since Baltimore went 23-1 versus the Royals in 1969-70.

 The Astros had an MLB-best +280 run differential last season, and rank 12th this year with a +7 differential. That's the largest decrease by any team from 2019 (-273).

 Seattle ranks last in the AL with a 5.90 ERA from relievers. That would be the second-highest bullpen ERA in team history, ahead of only the 1999 team's 5.94 mark.

 George Springer had his first three-hit game of the season on Sunday against Arizona -- including a pair of home runs -- and has hit safely in his last eight games. His eight home runs this month are tied for the most in the AL, with three others.

The Houston Astros are on the verge of clinching their fourth consecutive postseason appearance.
If the Astros beat the host Seattle Mariners in the finale of a three-game series Wednesday afternoon and the Los Angeles Angels lose to the San Diego Padres, Houston would capture second place in the American League West and a spot in the expanded postseason in this pandemic-shortened season.
