 Houston is 6-1 against the Mariners this year and 24-2 (.923) in the series since the start of last season. That would be the best record by any team against a given opponent over a two-year span (minimum 20 games) since Baltimore went 23-1 versus the Royals in 1969-70.

 George Springer had his first three-hit game of the season on Sunday against Arizona -- including a pair of home runs -- and has hit safely in his last eight games. His eight home runs this month are tied for the most in the AL, with three others.

The rebuilding Seattle Mariners aren't out of the playoff race just yet.
The Mariners (24-30) enter Tuesday night's game against visiting Houston (27-27) three games behind the Astros in the chase for second place in the American League West with six games to play.

SEATTLE (AP)  Martin Maldonado hit a three-run home run, Framber Valdez struck out eight to set career highs for wins and strikeouts, and the Houston Astros beat the Seattle Mariners 6-1 on Tuesday night to close on their fourth straight playoff berth.
Houston (28-27) is second in the AL West, comfortably ahead of the fourth-place Mariners (24-31) and the third-place Los Angeles Angels (25-31). The defending AL champions have five games left.
