 On September 7, the Indians were tied with the White Sox for the AL Central lead at 26-15. Since then, they have lost eight straight games and now sit just 4.0 games ahead of the Mariners and Orioles for the second AL Wild Card spot. Cleveland hasn't lost nine straight games since the 2012 season.

 After winning eight of 10 from August 21-September 1, the Tigers have dropped 11 of their last 15, allowing 6.3 runs per game. They have been shut out three times in their last eight games and six times overall this season, tied with the Reds for most in baseball.

 The Indians had won 20 straight games against the Tigers before losing two of three in Cleveland from August 21-23. That was the first series win for the Tigers over the Indians since September 14-16, 2018.

 Franmil Reyes is hitting just .119 in his last 12 games, going hitless in eight of them. However, he could break out against Detroit: in 10 career games against the Tigers, Reyes is slashing .353/.500/.912 with six home runs and 12 RBI.

 In Detroit's last 25 games dating back to August 21, Jeimer Candelario is hitting .386 and Willi Castro is hitting .378. Those are the top two batting averages in the AL in that span (minimum 75 PA).

 Shane Bieber leads MLB in both ERA (1.53) and strikeouts (102) this season. He could become the first Indians player to lead all of MLB in both categories and the first pitcher to do so since San Diego's Jake Peavy in 2007. Bieber owns a 1.82 ERA in five career starts against the Tigers.

Tigers look for split of series with Indians

DETROIT (AP)  With Carlos Carrasco looking sharp down the stretch, the Cleveland Indians could be a dangerous team in the postseason.
Carrasco allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings, and Jose Ramirez homered twice to lift the Indians to a 7-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Cleveland took three of four in this series after entering on an eight-game losing streak, and now the Indians are closing in on a playoff berth.
