 The Giants swept two games from the Mariners last week in San Francisco, winning 6-5 and 10-1. Dating back to 2009, the Giants and Mariners have split 16 meetings right down the middle, 8-8.

 The Giants were swept in what was supposed to be a 4-game series in San Diego from Thursday through Sunday, but ended up being a game on Thursday, two postponements on Friday and Saturday and a doubleheader on Sunday. The Giants are exactly one game under .500 for the 10th time this season.

 The Mariners are within 1.5 games of second-place Houston in the AL West, and catching the Astros is currently the best way for Seattle to make the postseason. The M's were 7-18 in their first 25 games of the season, but have gone 15-8 since.

 Donovan Solano is hitting .349 this season. The last Giants' second baseman (based on primary position in that season) to hit .349 (or better) through 47 team games (minimum 150 PA) was Hall-of-Famer Rogers Hornsby in his only season with the Giants in 1927. Solano has four 3+ hit games in September, tied most in MLB (Tim Anderson, CWS).

 Kyle Lewis is one of just three players in MLB currently leading their team in runs (34), hits (49), home runs (10) and walks (27). The other two are Minnesota's Nelson Cruz and St. Louis' Paul Goldschmidt. No Mariner has ever finished a season leading the club in these four categories.

 Tyler Anderson beat the Mariners in his last outing last Wednesday, throwing six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out four. It was Anderson's third game this season with 5.0+ innings pitched and zero earned runs allowed, and the only three such games for Giants starting pitchers in 2020.

The Seattle Mariners couldn't solve San Francisco left-hander Tyler Anderson under an orange sky at night last week. Perhaps they'll get some better looks against him in the daylight.
Anderson (2-3, 4.50 ERA) will make his second consecutive start against the Mariners on Thursday afternoon, again taking the mound against them in San Francisco. He pitched six scoreless innings against the M's in San Francisco on Sept. 9. The Giants won that game 10-1.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)  The nomadic Mariners are taking their bats from the Bay Area to Southern California for three more ''home games'' on the road.
Wilmer Flores hit a go-ahead, two-run triple in the seventh inning of the Giants' 6-4 win Thursday that sent Seattle to a second home defeat played in San Francisco's ballpark because of dangerous air quality in Western Washington.
