 The Astros have won 11 of 12 home games against the Rangers dating back to the start of last season, including taking two out of three games in their first meeting from September 1-3 this season. Houston has outscored Texas by 38 runs in those 12 games and is slugging .535 with 28 home runs in that span.

 The Astros enter the series at 23-24, the first time they've been below .500 at least 20 games into a season since they sat at 35-36 on June 20, 2016. However, of their 13 remaining games, none are against teams currently over .500, and their opponents' combined .382 win percentage gives them the easiest remaining schedule in MLB.

 Texas managed a four-game split with Oakland and has won four of its last seven following a 3-18 stretch. The Rangers currently rank last in the American League in batting average (.218), on-base percentage (.291), and slugging percentage (.361) -- they would be the first team to finish last in the AL in all three categories since the Mariners did so in three straight seasons from 2010 to 2012.

 Jose Urquidy will make his 10th career start, entering with a .282 opponent on-base percentage in the first nine starts, sixth lowest in Astros history through nine career starts. Urquidy won his only meeting with the Rangers on July 20 last season, allowing just two hits -- including a solo home run -- in seven innings.

 Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 5-for-14 with a home run in the first series in Houston this season. He's hitting .243 in 18 career games against the Astros and five of his seven career home runs have come at Minute Maid Park.

 Houston has posted a 16-6 (.727) record at home this season, third best in MLB (Twins, .808; Padres, .760). Meanwhile, Texas has gone a league-worst 4-17 (.190) away from home this season.

The return of second baseman Jose Altuve from the 10-day injured list Tuesday appeared to move the Houston Astros one step closer to being whole, but yet another malady was lurking.
Shortstop Carlos Correa departed in the sixth inning of the Astros' 4-1 victory over the Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park after fouling a pitch off his left ankle. Correa appeared in extreme distress and required help exiting the field following the play, but the Astros received a measure of positive news when subsequent tests revealed nothing more severe than a bone bruise.

HOUSTON (AP)  Kyle Gibson threw a four-hitter and Joey Gallo hit a ground-rule RBI double with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the Texas Rangers over the Houston Astros 1-0 on Wednesday night.
It was the first career shutout for the 32-year-old Gibson and third complete game - his previous one came in August 2016 with Minnesota against Atlanta.
