 The Astros have won 11 of 12 home games against the Rangers dating back to the start of last season, including taking two out of three games in their first meeting from September 1-3 this season. Houston has outscored Texas by 38 runs in those 12 games and is slugging .535 with 28 home runs in that span.

 The Astros enter the series at 23-24, the first time they've been below .500 at least 20 games into a season since they sat at 35-36 on June 20, 2016. However, of their 13 remaining games, none are against teams currently over .500, and their opponents' combined .382 win percentage gives them the easiest remaining schedule in MLB.

 Texas managed a four-game split with Oakland and has won four of its last seven following a 3-18 stretch. The Rangers currently rank last in the American League in batting average (.218), on-base percentage (.291), and slugging percentage (.361) -- they would be the first team to finish last in the AL in all three categories since the Mariners did so in three straight seasons from 2010 to 2012.

 Jose Urquidy will make his 10th career start, entering with a .282 opponent on-base percentage in the first nine starts, sixth lowest in Astros history through nine career starts. Urquidy won his only meeting with the Rangers on July 20 last season, allowing just two hits -- including a solo home run -- in seven innings.

 Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 5-for-14 with a home run in the first series in Houston this season. He's hitting .243 in 18 career games against the Astros and five of his seven career home runs have come at Minute Maid Park.

 Houston has posted a 16-6 (.727) record at home this season, third best in MLB (Twins, .808; Padres, .760). Meanwhile, Texas has gone a league-worst 4-17 (.190) away from home this season.

The Astros (23-24) closed a miserable 2-9 road trip that featured stops in Anaheim, Oakland and Los Angeles with an 8-1 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday. They sit 6 1/2 games behind the Athletics with just 13 to play as they return to Minute Maid Park for their final homestand of the season looking to fend off the Seattle Mariners (22-26) for second place in the division.

Astros return home to face Rangers after poor trip

HOUSTON (AP)  George Springer and Martin Maldonado homered, Alex Bregman hit a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh inning and the Houston Astros got a needed 4-1 win over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.
The Astros, who are two games ahead of Seattle for second place in the AL West with the top two teams ensured a postseason spot, opened a six-game homestand after dropping 9 of 11 games on their recent road trip.
