 St. Louis has won five of seven meetings between these teams in 2020, doubling up the Reds' run total (42-21). The Cardinals won the season series with Cincinnati each of the past eight years (2012-19).

 The Cardinals split a doubleheader with Detroit yesterday, winning 12-2 in the first game before a 6-3 loss in the second. They are the only MLB team this year that is unbeaten when scoring five or more runs (16-0); they are 3-18 (.143) when scoring four or fewer runs, fifth worst in the majors.

The visiting Cincinnati Reds will try to continue their climb toward the National League playoff bracket when they face the St. Louis Cardinals again on Saturday.
The Reds (20-25) scored a 3-1 victory over the Cardinals (19-19) on Friday night in the opener of the three-game series at Busch Stadium. Cincinnati moved within 2 1/2 games of second-place St. Louis in the division.

ST. LOUIS (AP)  Dakota Hudson allowed just one hit in six innings and the St. Louis Cardinals backed him with four home runs to beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 on Saturday night.
''I thought he had plus-stuff,'' St. Louis manager Mike Shildt said. ''He had good movement. I thought he pitched great. He showed a lot of poise. He didn't give in to anything. He made quality pitches.''
