 The Orioles had lost 19 in a row in this series -- allowing 8.4 runs per game -- before taking the final three games of a four-game series with the Yankees last weekend, allowing five total runs in the three wins. They have a six-game losing streak in Yankee Stadium.

 Baltimore has scored four or more runs in 10 straight games, the second-longest streak in MLB this year; the Giants had an 11-game streak that ended yesterday. The Orioles haven't scored four or more in 11 straight since a 17-game streak in 1999.

 New York snapped a five-game losing skid with Wednesday's 7-2 win over Toronto. The Yankees had the best record in baseball through August 17 at 16-6, but are 6-15 since then, third worst in MLB.

 Gleyber Torres ended a career-long streak of 80 homerless at-bats with a solo shot in the second inning of Wednesday's win over the Blue Jays. He has two homers this season (one every 47.0 at-bats) after hitting 38 in 2019 (one every 14.4 at-bats).

 Gerrit Cole was 4-0 with a 2.75 ERA through his first six starts as a Yankee, but is 0-3 with a 5.63 ERA in his last three. He struck out 10 Orioles in a loss on Saturday, his 38th career 10-strikeout game.

 DJ Stewart is the first player in Orioles franchise history (including Browns years) to have at least one home run and two runs scored in four straight games. He was hitless on the season prior to the streak (0-for-16).

Last season, when the idea of playing a 60-game season with only divisional play would have been considered absurd, the New York Yankees became quite familiar with doubleheaders en route to an AL East title.
This year, getting in 60 games in a little over two months is a challenge, often resulting in doubleheaders. The Yankees will play their seventh doubleheader of the abridged season Friday when they host the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a four-game series.

NEW YORK (AP)  Pitching, power, savvy on the bases - the Yankees pummeled the Orioles every which way Friday night.
Gerrit Cole threw a seven-inning two-hitter in a 6-0 doubleheader opener, Luke Voit hit a pair of three-run homers in a 10-1 nightcap romp, and New York thumped Baltimore to win a pair of pivotal games.
