 The Giants and Mariners are meeting for the first time since 2018, when they split four games (1-1 each in San Francisco and Seattle). Both teams have losing records in interleague play this year (Giants, 6-7; Mariners, 4-6).

 Seattle was an AL-worst 8-19 through August 20, but is an MLB-best 11-3 since then. That 14-game stretch includes a 7-0 record versus the Rangers, and a current six-game win streak -- the longest active streak in the majors.

 The Giants have won three straight games to even their record on the season (21-21) -- their first time reaching the .500 mark since being 5-5 through August 2. San Francisco has a run differential of zero this year (218 scored and allowed, or 5.2 per game).

 Mike Yastrzemski has a .420 on-base percentage when batting leadoff this year, third best in the majors behind Mookie Betts (.431) and Ronald Acuna Jr. (.424; minimum 75 PA in No. 1 spot).

 Logan Webb was 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA through three starts this year, compared to 1-3 with a 6.08 ERA in five starts since. He's one of two rookie pitchers in the NL to have already made eight starts this season, along with the Dodgers' Dustin May.

 Kyle Lewis (23) and Evan White (20) rank second and third among MLB rookies in RBI, behind Luis Robert of the White Sox (27). Lewis leads all rookies in hits (45), walks (23) and runs scored (32).

Back above .500, Giants look to top Mariners again

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)  Mike Yastrzemski hit a three-run homer as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Seattle Mariners 10-1 for their fifth straight win Wednesday night under skies turned orange by raging wildfires in Northern California.
Players took batting practice with the lights turned on at Oracle Park on a late-summer afternoon. Some ash flakes rained down on the ballpark and the smell of smoke was noticeable but not overpowering.
