 The teams are squaring off for the first time in 2020 after the Twins took 14 of 19 games between the clubs a season ago. It was the most wins for Minnesota in a season series against Detroit since 2003, when the Twins went 15-4 versus the Tigers.

 Over their first 19 games of 2020, the Twins averaged 5.16 runs per game, slugging 1.68 homers per contest (32 in 19 games). In 13 subsequent games, Minnesota is scoring only 3.85 runs per game (50 in 13 games) averaging exactly one homer per contest.

 Following a nine-game losing streak in which the club scored only 3.22 runs per game while hitting .216, the Tigers have bounced back offensively. They have won four of their last six games, averaging 5.83 runs per contest (35 in six games) and hitting .302.

 Randy Dobnak has a 1.78 ERA over his first six starts of 2020. In the last quarter century, only two Twins have posted lower ERAs in their first six starts of a season (minimum 25 innings): Francisco Liriano in 2006 (1.50) and Ervin Santana in 2017 (0.66).

 Over the last 11 days, former Twin Jonathan Schoop has a .444 batting average (16-for-36), fifth highest in the majors in that span (minimum 30 plate appearances). Over the last two seasons, Schoop has a .304 batting average in August -- easily his top figure in any month.

 Current Tigers skipper Ron Gardenhire managed the Twins from 2002 through 2014 and ranks third in franchise history in games managed (2107) and games (1068). In the franchise's tenure in the Twin Cities, which began in 1961, only Tom Kelly has more games and wins as manager of the Twins.

The latest postponement in the Twins' weekend series against the Detroit Tigers gives Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli more options regarding his pitching staff.
The teams' scheduled doubleheader on Friday was postponed due to inclement weather. The originally scheduled four-game series was supposed to begin Thursday, but players on both teams decided not to play that day in order to protest racial injustice.

Twins ponder pitching options for twin bill at Detroit

DETROIT (AP)  It was fitting that during a doubleheader in the Motor City, Matthew Boyd went with a car analogy to describe Detroit's two left-handed starters.
''They got the old F-150 in the first game,'' Boyd said after winning the opener. ''And now they're getting the Ferrari.''
