 Kansas City swept a three-game series with the Twins at home from August 7-9, before Minnesota won three of four from the Royals at home in a series ending Monday. Each of the last nine games between the teams has been decided by three or fewer runs.

 Minnesota's +39 run differential is the best in the American League, and the fourth best by the Twins through 26 games in a season since moving to Minnesota in 1961 (best since 2010, +41).

 Kansas City split Wednesday's doubleheader with the Reds, with both the win (4-0) and loss (5-0) coming via shutout. The Royals have been shut out three times in 2020, tied with the Indians and Reds for the most in baseball.

 Jorge Soler's 37 strikeouts are the third most in the majors, behind Seattle's Evan White (40) and Minnesota's Miguel Sano (38). On Wednesday he snapped a streak of five straight games with three or more strikeouts, the longest streak by any player in the live-ball era.

 Danny Duffy is set to make his 187th career start with the Royals, tying Charlie Leibrandt for seventh most in franchise history. He's 7-3 with a 3.26 ERA in his career against the Twins (25 appearances, 21 starts).

 In 23 games against Kansas City since joining the Twins last season, Nelson Cruz is batting .381 with 14 home runs, 34 RBI and a 1.429 OPS. That includes five home runs in seven games this year.

If familiarity really does breed contempt, the Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals ought to be building up a pretty good dislike for each other by now.
For the third straight weekend, the two clubs will face each other, beginning with a matchup Friday night. The Royals swept a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium Aug. 7-9. The Twins took three of four in a return engagement at Target Field Aug. 14-17. The final series of the season between the two clubs will be back in Kansas City.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)  The Royals knew they would need somebody to step up when Salvador Perez went on the injured list earlier in the day with a mysterious eye ailment that had caused the star catcher to have some blurry vision.
Well, Jorge Soler and Hunter Dozier certainly left the Twins seeing red.
