 This will be only the second time the Brewers and Cubs will meet in their season-opening series along with the 2008 season (Milwaukee won two of three). Current Brewers manager Craig Counsell scored the winning run for Milwaukee on Opening Day in 2008 (4-3 in 10 innings).

 The Brewers are looking to make the postseason in three straight seasons for the first time in franchise history. Milwaukee finished 89-73 in 2019 despite a run differential of just +3. The last NL team to finish 16+ games over .500 with a lower run differential was the 2007 Diamondbacks (90-72, -20 run diff).

 Former Cub David Ross will take over for Joe Maddon as manager in Chicago. The Cubs haven't had a manager last more than five years since Leo Durocher managed the club for six and a half seasons from 1966-1972. Including Ross, Chicago has had 28 different managers since 1972, most in MLB.

 After winning NL MVP in 2018, Christian Yelich improved on his numbers in 2019, leading all of MLB with a 1.100 OPS and leading the NL with a .329 batting average. However, he narrowly lost out on the 2019 NL MVP to Cody Bellinger after missing the last three weeks of the season with a fractured kneecap.

 Kyle Hendricks will make his first Opening Day start, getting the nod over Jon Lester, who had opened for the Cubs in four of the last five years. Hendricks had a 2.04 ERA at Wrigley Field last season, the second-best home ERA among qualifiers behind Hyun Jin Ryu (1.93). Hendricks owns a 2.61 career ERA at Wrigley.

 The Cubs (256) and Brewers (250) each set franchise records for most home runs in a season, ranking second and third in the NL, respectively, behind the Dodgers (279). Chicago had 11 different players hit at least 10 homers, tied for third most in MLB.

Burnes gets important start for Brewers at Cubs

CHICAGO (AP)  Christian Yelich and Justin Smoak hit long home runs, umpires intervened before a shouting match between the teams got too serious and the Milwaukee Brewers powered past the Chicago Cubs 8-3 on Saturday.
Without fans at Wrigley Field, players from both NL Central rivals could be heard shouting toward each other from their dugouts before the start of the fourth inning.
