 The Indians lost two of three games against the White Sox to fall two games behind the Rays for the second AL Wild Card spot. The team that finishes the season in third place in the AL Wild Card race is guaranteed to have the most wins of any team to miss the playoffs under the current Wild Card format (since 2013).

 The Nationals and the Brewers have clinched the two NL Wild Card spots. Washington has a one game edge over Milwaukee for home field advantage in the Wild Card game; the Brewers end their season with three games against the Rockies at Coors Field.

After dropping two straight games to the Chicago White Sox, the Indians (93-66) trail the Tampa Bay Rays (95-64) by two games with three to play. The Rays visit the Toronto Blue Jays for their final three games.

Playoff implications abound as Indians visit Nationals

WASHINGTON (AP)  The Cleveland Indians' clubhouse was quiet as can be, nearly cleared out. The TVs were all off. No music. No conversation. The meaningful part of their season is done.
Manager Terry Francona and the Indians will miss out on the playoffs for the first time since 2015, eliminated from the AL wild-card race Friday night with an 8-2 loss to the postseason-bound Washington Nationals.
