 The Twins have won six of their last seven meetings with the Royals -- all at home -- and are 12-4 in the season series. Minnesota is 15-4 at home against Kansas City since the start of 2018 but 6-10 on the road, a record that includes eight straight losses last season.

 The Royals are coming off a two-game split against the Braves and will finish with their second consecutive 100-loss season and sixth in franchise history. Since the Royals entered MLB in 1969, they are tied with Detroit for the most 100-loss seasons (6).

 Minnesota locked up its first division title since 2010 on Wednesday and completed a three-game sweep of the Tigers with a 10-4 victory Thursday, its 10th in 13 games. The Twins are a win away from their first 100-win season since the 1965 team finished a franchise-best 102-60.

 Nelson Cruz has eight home runs and 26 RBI this season against the Royals. His RBI are tied for the second-most in MLB for any player against any opponent (Devers, 28 vs. Toronto). They are the third-most by a Twin against an opponent ever in a season (Killebrew, 34 vs. Oakland in 1969, Morneau, 27 vs. White Sox in 2007).

 Nicky Lopez has not struck out in his last 39 plate appearances, a streak that began on September 1 and is the longest active run in the majors. Lopez is 10-for-22 (.455) in his last six starts.

 Whit Merrifield could become the first player to lead MLB in hits in consecutive seasons since Ichiro Suzuki topped the majors in five straight seasons from 2006-2010. Merrifield's 201 hits are five more than Rafael Devers of the Red Sox.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)  A short game left a lasting memory for the Minnesota Twins.
The Twins became the record fourth team in the major leagues to win 100 games this season, beating the Kansas City Royals 6-2 Friday night behind two-run homers from Miguel Sano and Ryan LaMarre in a game shortened to 6 1/2 innings because of rain.
