 The Brewers have won 12 of the first 16 meetings between these teams this season. Prior to this year, Milwaukee had not won a season series from Pittsburgh since 2015 and went 25-32 (.439) against the Pirates from 2016-18, its second-worst winning percentage against any NL team over that stretch (Dodgers, 8-12, .400).

 The Pirates are two defeats away from their first 90-loss season since 2011. Among NL teams, only the Cardinals (24 seasons), Dodgers (14) and Nationals (9) have longer streaks of not reaching that number.

 Milwaukee enters the series having won 12 of its last 14 games, with strong pitching having carried that stretch as the Brewers rank second (to St. Louis) with a 3.22 ERA in September. Milwaukee led the majors with a 2.77 ERA while going 19-7 in September last season.

 The Pirates have gone six consecutive games without a home run, their longest drought since a six-game spell from June 24-30, 2015. Pittsburgh last went seven straight games without homering during an eight-game streak from July 17-25, 2011.

 Kevin Newman is batting .345 (19-for-55) over a 13-game hitting streak and had a 19-game streak earlier this season. He's the first Pirates rookie with two hitting streaks of at least 13 games since Lee Handley in 1937.

 Mike Moustakas hit his 35th homer of 2019 in Milwaukee's win over the Padres on Tuesday, tying the franchise record by a third baseman in a season set by Bill Hall in 2006.

MILWAUKEE (AP)  Chase Anderson hadn't pitched past the fourth inning in any start in nearly a month. On Friday night, with his team in the heat of a playoff race, the Milwaukee Brewers right-hander stepped up.
Anderson pitched six scoreless innings, Trent Grisham hit a bases-loaded triple and the Brewers routed the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-1 to strengthen their grip on the NL wild card.
