 These AL West foes have each scored 74 runs in their 13 meetings this season, but the A's lead the series 8-5 mainly because they've won four of the teams' five one-run games. Still, Texas has the AL's third-best record in one-run games (25-20) -- behind Minnesota and Houston -- while Oakland ranks fourth (23-19).

 After having the AL's third-best record in July (15-9) and August (17-9), the A's are one of three teams tied for the AL's best mark in September at 8-3 along with the Yankees and Rays. Oakland is scoring 6.45 runs per game this month, second-best in the majors behind the Astros (6.82).

 The Rangers have moved back to .500 for the first time since August 14 (60-60), winning six of their last seven games while batting .293. Prior to this hot stretch, they had been hitting a major league-worst .231 since the All-Star break.

 Matt Olson hit his 85th career homer in his 345th career game Thursday. Since the team's move to Oakland in 1968, the only players to reach 85 homers in an A's uniform in fewer games were Khris Davis (303) and Mark McGwire (325).

 Nick Solak, who is 9-for-15 with two homers and eight RBI in his last four games, has a 1.073 OPS through his first 22 games as a major leaguer. The previous best by any player in franchise history at this point of his career was Chris Davis at .974 in 2008.

 Chris Bassitt is 5-1 with a 2.78 ERA in his last 10 starts but has faced an AL West team only twice in that span. Bassitt is 4-4 with a 5.29 ERA against division opponents this year, compared to 6-1 with a 2.70 ERA against all other teams.

Left-hander Sean Manaea will make his third start since returning from shoulder surgery when the Oakland Athletics go for a sweep of their three-game series with the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon in Arlington, Texas.
Manaea (1-0, 0.75 ERA) went 12-9 with a 3.59 ERA in 27 starts in 2018 and pitched a no-hitter in April against eventual World Series winner Boston. But he was sidelined in late August and underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder on Sept. 19.

Surging A's go for sweep of Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  The Athletics are returning home with a 1 1/2-game lead in the AL wild card race and plenty of confidence after a 6-1 trip.
Sean Manaea limited Texas to three singles over six scoreless innings, Matt Chapman and Marcus Semien homered to help break the franchise record for home runs in a season, and the A's beat the Rangers 6-1 Sunday.
