 The Nationals snapped a four-game losing streak with a 9-4 victory over the Braves on Sunday. Washington is two and a half games clear of Chicago for the first NL Wild Card spot, although 17 of the team's final 20 games are against teams currently at .500 or better.

 Minnesota has the third-easiest remaining schedule in the majors, with its upcoming opponents combining for a .431 winning percentage. The Twins are an MLB-best 59-21 (.738) against teams currently under .500, compared to 29-34 (.460) against teams .500 or better, which ranks 13th in MLB.

 Since the All-Star break, Anthony Rendon is leading the majors in batting average (.382), while ranking second in MLB in OPS at 1.116 (Alex Bregman -- 1.132; min. 200 PA). Rendon's post-ASB OPS is on pace to be the highest in franchise history, as Vladimir Guerrero currently has the top spot with a 1.095 OPS in the second half of 2003 for the Expos (min. 200 PA).

Kyle Gibson returns from a stint on the injured list to try for his 14th win on Thursday night when the Minnesota Twins face the Washington Nationals in the rubber game of a three-game interleague series in Minneapolis.
Gibson (13-6, 4.58 ERA) last pitched on Aug. 30 when he notched his second straight win over the Detroit Tigers, allowing four runs on 10 hits over five innings in a 13-5 victory at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Twins hope Gibson's return adds spark against Nats

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)  A win by the Washington Nationals over the Minnesota Twins made the American League Central Division race a lot more interesting.
Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto each homered and drove in three runs as the Nationals beat Minnesota 12-6 Thursday night, cutting the Twins divisional lead to 3  1/2 games ahead of a critical series in Cleveland.
