 Cleveland and Detroit meet for a three-game series, their last in the Motor City this year. The Indians are 12-1 against the Tigers this season while hitting .302, their highest against any opponent. Since 2016, Cleveland is 52-17 against Detroit while outscoring the Tigers by an average of 2.96 runs per game.

 The Indians took two of three against the Royals over the weekend but dropped Sunday's finale with the bullpen walking four, surrendering two home runs and tying a season high by allowing six runs. Cleveland's bullpen allows 2.97 BB/9 on the season, best in MLB, and 1.11 HR/9, fourth in the majors.

 The Tigers play 23 of their final 34 games against division opponents, including their next nine. This season they have scored 4.19 runs per game against the AL Central while slashing .255/.313/.423, compared to 3.26 runs per game and a slash line of .226/.281/.363 against all other opponents.

 Carlos Santana is fourth in the majors with a .471 on-base percentage in August and leads the American League with 22 walks this month. No Indian has had more walks in a single month since Travis Hafner had 28 in May 2007.

 Victor Reyes leads the Tigers with 26 hits this month. Since Aug. 4, Reyes is batting .325 and has an OPS of .812 after hitting .224 with an OPS of .586 before that point.

 Jake Rogers is 3 for 46 in his last 14 games, but two of his three hits in that span are home runs. His .048 batting average over the last 10 days is worst in the majors (min. 20 PA).

Daniel Norris hasn't given up a run in his last two starts. Of course, it's a little easier to do that on a strict innings limit.
Norris hasn't pitched longer than three innings in his last three starts, and he's unlikely to exceed that total for the remainder of the season. The Detroit Tigers want the left-hander to finish the season healthy after struggling through injuries most of his major league career.
