 The Brewers are 6-3 against the Reds, sweeping the only series played at Cincinnati to open April. All three of those wins were by one run, and since the start of last season Milwaukee's 45-26 record in one-run games is MLB's third-best winning percentage (.634) in games decided by a single run.

 Christian Yelich hit safely in all 10 of Milwaukee's road games in June, slashing .391/.440/.804. On the season, he has a .407/.462/.898 slash line when leading off an inning for a 1.360 OPS -- the best in MLB among the 119 batters with at least 65 such plate appearances

 All-Star Yasmani Grandal has a .364/.548/.682 slash line with two homers and six runs scored in eight games against the Reds this year. On the season, he has 18 home runs, 11 doubles, 46 RBI and 45 walks, and is the first catcher to enter July with at least 15 homers, 10 doubles, 45 RBI and 45 walks since the Yankees' Jorge Posada in 2003.

 The Brewers finished up June with a 13-13 record after entering the month 32-26. They had a minus-0.69 run differential last month after being at plus-0.25 prior to June.

 The Reds have won six of seven at home, with their starting pitchers posting a 2.32 ERA in those games. On the season, Cincinnati's pitching staff has a 3.69 ERA after posting a 4.63 ERA in 2018. That improvement of 0.94 is the best in MLB.

 Joey Votto is batting .378 in his last 13 home games, and on the season he's slashing .391/.451/.719 in the first inning compared to .230/.335/.324 in all other innings. His 1.169 first-inning OPS ranks fourth in MLB among those with at least 70 plate appearances in the first.

The Milwaukee Brewers gave Christian Yelich a rare night off on Wednesday and the rest of the club appeared to follow suit en route to its second straight loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
Yelich and Yasmani Grandal are expected to return to the starting lineup on Thursday afternoon as the visiting Brewers bid to salvage a split of their four-game series versus the Reds.

CINCINNATI (AP)  Luis Castillo tuned up for his first All-Star Game with an absolute gem.
Castillo struck out nine while pitching one-hit ball into the eighth inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the slumping Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 on Thursday.
