 The Angels nearly blew a six-run lead in the ninth Sunday in St. Louis before hanging on for a 6-4 win to snap a three-game skid. They are a perfect 34-0 this season when leading after seven innings after going 69-10 in those same situations a year ago. Those 10 defeats were tied for the most in the majors.

 Mike Trout, who is slashing .485/.564/.909 in his last eight games, leads the majors this year with 157 times on base, his most through 75 games played. He was on base 156 times through 75 games each of the last two seasons.

 Justin Upton made his season debut last week after being sidelined since spring training because of turf toe and already has hit three homers. It's the most home runs through seven games played for the 13-year veteran since he had six for the Braves in the first week of 2013.

 Following a season-high six-game win streak, the Reds have lost their last two, scoring five runs in each defeat. They have MLB's third-worst record when scoring at least five at 21-11 (.656) and haven't finished a season with a worse winning percentage in such games since 1949, when they were 36-19 (.655).

 Joey Votto hit a three-run homer Sunday, his first home run with two men on since Sept. 9. Votto is slashing .373/.439/.678 with 11 extra-base hits in the first inning this year (66 PAs) after producing a .298/.429/.368 slash line with seven extra-base hits in the first inning all of last season (140 PAs).

 Cincinnati relievers have a 1.78 ERA over the team's last nine games, and their 3.38 ERA on the year leads the NL. Cincinnati hasn't finished a season leading the league in bullpen ERA since it had a 2.65 in 2012.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)  Although the Cincinnati Reds didn't commit an actual error, they made a prolific number of boneheaded plays at Angel Stadium - losing fly balls in center, losing their way on the basepaths, possibly losing track of the outs, even losing their cool over balls and strikes.
Tommy La Stella, Wilfredo Tovar and the Los Angeles Angels were happy to capitalize on the Reds' comprehensive ineptitude for a win that got them back to .500.
