 The Padres won two of three games from the Nationals in Washington from April 26-28, their first series win over Washington since 2016. The Nationals are 10-4 in their last 14 games at PETCO Park and have not lost a series there since 2010.

 Washington has won a season-high four straight games and is 9-2 since May 24, second only to the Dodgers (11-2) for the majors' best record over that period. The Nationals are averaging 6.73 runs per game during that stretch, second only to Colorado (6.75).

 The Padres have hit 13 home runs through the first six games of their current homestand and rank fourth in the NL in that category (94). San Diego is just one of two NL teams (Cubs) with five players with 10 or more homers.

 Conversely, San Diego pitchers have allowed 36 runs during a 1-4 stretch, the most the team has allowed in any five-game span this season.

 Franmil Reyes homered three times in the Padres' three-game series with Philadelphia and has hit 12 of his 19 home runs at home. Reyes is one of three players in the live-ball era with at least 19 homers and an on-base percentage below .300 through 62 team games of a season (Sammy Sosa, 1996; Dave Kingman, 1976).

 Max Scherzer is 12-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 20 starts against NL West opponents since 2016 and 8-0 in 11 road starts over that span. Scherzer struck out 15 Reds in his last start on June 2. His six starts with at least 15 strikeouts since 2012 are the most in the majors.

The Washington Nationals will be leaning on their proven 1-2 pitching punch of Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg over the weekend to get their recent mojo back.
The Nationals came to San Diego on a 9-2 run Thursday to open a four-game series with the Padres. But the Padres came from behind to win the first two games of the series, including scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth Friday night for a 5-4 walk-off win.

Nats turn to Scherzer to stem tide vs. Padres

SAN DIEGO (AP)  Max Scherzer shrugged off taking a comebacker off his calf and got out of the only inning in which the San Diego Padres threatened.
Scherzer struck out nine in seven shutout innings and Brian Dozier hit a two-run home run for his 1,000th career hit to lead the Washington Nationals to a 4-1 victory Saturday night.
