 The Braves beat the Tigers, 7-4, at home on Sunday, winning the series rubber match. They've won every series but two since May 3, going 7-2, with the only blemishes being a three-game sweep against the Dodgers and a two-game sweep against Washington.

 The Pirates fell to the Brewers, 4-2, at home on Sunday, dropping three games of the four-game set. They're now 4-10 since May 21, the worst record in the National League. They've allowed 105 runs in that span, 26 more than any other NL team.

 This will be the first meeting between these teams this season. Atlanta won five of the six games last year, holding Pittsburgh to two total runs in the three games at PNC Park. Prior to that sweep, the Pirates had won nine of their last 11 home games against the Braves.

 Dansby Swanson has recorded back-to-back games with at least two hits, two runs, and two RBI for the first time in his career. He has also homered in back-to-back games for just the second time in his career (also as a rookie in 2016).

 Max Fried allowed four runs (all earned) in 5.2 innings against the Nationals last Tuesday, dropping to 7-3 this season. That snapped a streak of three straight starts earning a win, the longest of his career.

 Steven Brault threw 5.1 shutout innings against the Reds last Wednesday, improving to 2-1 this season. It was the second time in his career he allowed zero runs in an appearance of at least 5.0 innings, also doing so in a start in Milwaukee in 2017.

A day off heading into Tuesday's series opener at PNC Park might have served the Pittsburgh Pirates better than the visiting Atlanta Braves.
The Pirates played 27 games in 27 days before Monday's respite, going 12-15 -- including losing 10 of their last 14 -- and perhaps succumbing to some fatigue over the weekend.

PITTSBURGH (AP)  In his short time with the Atlanta Braves, Austin Riley has liked the way his teammates fight for wins. On Tuesday night, he had a big role in their latest victory.
Riley and Josh Donaldson hit three-run home runs in consecutive innings, and the Braves rallied to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-5.
