 The Mets were shut out for the seventh time this season in their 2-0 loss to the Dodgers on Thursday. The only team in the majors that has been shut out more often this season is the Marlins (10).

 Each of the last three series that the Diamondbacks have played in have resulted in a sweep. Arizona was swept in three games in San Diego, then swept the Giants in three games in San Francisco, then were swept in four games by the Rockies in Colorado.

 Pete Alonso has hit 19 home runs this season, tying Mark McGwire's mark originally set in 1987 for most home runs by a rookie prior to June all-time.

Arizona will bring up 24-year-old right-hander Jon Duplantier, considered the franchise's top pitching prospect, from Triple-A Reno to open a three-game series against the New York Mets in Phoenix on Friday night.

Diamondbacks turn to touted rookie in opener with Mets

PHOENIX (AP)  When New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway went to Carlos Gomez, he delivered. Same for Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman.
Gomez snapped a tie with a pinch-hit double during New York's bizarre two-run eighth inning, sending the Mets to a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.
