 Miami swept the Mets over the weekend after losing seven consecutive games. The Marlins' 10-31 record was the second-worst by a team entering a series sweep in the divisional era (since 1961), behind only the Marlins against the Mets in 2013 (entered with a 13-41 record, minimum three games in the series and 40 games into the season).

 The Tigers' last game versus the Athletics was suspended due to rain and will be resumed in September. Prior to that game, they had lost seven straight at Comerica, getting outscored 65-12. That's their worst run differential in a seven-game home span in franchise history.

 The two teams enter with the fewest runs scored per game in MLB -- the Marlins are 30th with 2.68 runs per game while the Tigers are 29th at 3.31. Both teams average the fewest home runs per game, with the Marlins averaging 0.61 home runs and the Tigers at 0.80.

 Although he is hitting just .209 in the month of May after hitting .294 in April, Jorge Alfaro has gone 5-for-10 with three extra-base hits in his last three games. His 11 games with multiple hits lead the Marlins.

 Detroit's 5.67 bullpen ERA this season is the third worst in MLB. However, Shane Greene has gone 15-for-15 in save opportunities this season, the second-most saves without a blown save in baseball, behind only Kirby Yates (18-for-18).

 Caleb Smith's 0.92 WHIP this season is sixth lowest in baseball (minimum eight starts) and the second-lowest by a Marlin through eight starts of the season in franchise history, behind only Josh Johnson in 2011 (0.90).

Brian Anderson has unearthed his power stroke in Detroit. The Miami Marlins third baseman will try to do more damage in the series finale against the Tigers on Thursday afternoon.
Anderson entered the series with two homers. He's doubled that total with a homer in the first two games of the series. He also had a double in an 11-inning victory on Tuesday.
