 Colorado has lost four straight, all on the road, including getting swept in three games against Philadelphia. The Rockies' .268 on-base percentage on the road is second worst in MLB (Reds - .260) and their lowest through 25 road games of the season in franchise history.

 The Pirates stand four games above .500, but are the only team above .500 with a negative run differential (-39). They have won 17 games decided by two or fewer runs, tied with the Padres for most in MLB.

 Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, who is still the only manager to lead the Rockies to the World Series (2007), will manage his 2500th game on Wednesday. He will become the sixth person to manage at least 2500 games in the NL in the divisional era (since 1969).

 Opponents are hitting .339 against German Marquez at Coors Field but only .179 everywhere else -- that .160 difference is the largest by any qualified pitcher in MLB (road better).

 Josh Bell had his third multi-home run game of the season on Saturday, joining Bob Skinner in 1959 as the only Pirates with at least three such games before June 1. Since April 28, the reigning NL Player of the Week has slashed .408/.471/.829 -- all three lead MLB (minimum 75 plate appearances).

 David Dahl is batting .297 this season but is hitting .443 on balls in play, highest in MLB (minimum 100 plate appearances). The only Rockies player to have a higher BABIP in his first 36 games of the season (minimum 100 plate appearances) was Mark Reynolds in 2016 (.456).

The Colorado Rockies have found a panacea, at least temporarily, in facing the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Rockies go into the third and final game of a series on Thursday at PNC Park having won the first two by a combined 14-3, seemingly solving their pitching problems while getting a ton of offense.

Pirates hope Lyles can turn tide vs. Rockies

PITTSBURGH (AP)  After scoring just three runs in the first two games of their series with the Colorado Rockies, the Pittsburgh Pirates' offense broke out in a big way on Thursday, setting new season highs for runs scored and margin of victory in a 14-6 win.
The offensive explosion was needed after the Rockies came back from an 8-0 deficit with a six-run sixth to make things interesting. But Josh Bell, Bryan Reynolds and Starling Marte all homered in the seventh to lead the Pirates to victory.
