 The Reds lost two of three games at Oakland in their most recent series, including getting no-hit by Mike Fiers on Tuesday night. Cincinnati is 7-14 (.333) on the road this season -- only the Marlins, at 4-12 (.250), have a worse road record in the National League this season.

 The Giants split a weather-shortened two-game set at Coors Field, winning the first game, 14-4, and losing the second game, 12-11. It's the first time San Francisco has scored 10+ runs in two straight games since May 22-23, 2015 -- the last time the team scored 10+ runs in three straight was from August 23-25, 2010.

 The Reds and Giants split a four-game series in Cincinnati earlier this month. Cincinnati hit 15 home runs in that series, tying the most the team has ever hit in any series in the live-ball era (the Reds hit 15 HR in a three-game series against the Phillies from September 3-5, 1999).

 Derek Dietrich hit his 10th home run of the season yesterday in his 36th career game with the Reds. In the live-ball era, only two left-handed batters have reached 10 career home runs with the Reds in fewer games than Dietrich -- Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn (34 games each).

 Through eight starts this season, Luis Castillo has a 1.97 ERA and a .176 opponent batting average. In the last 40 seasons, the only other Red with a sub-2.00 ERA and a sub-.200 opponent batting average through his first eight starts in a season was Johnny Cueto in 2014.

 Dating back to last July, Pablo Sandoval has gone 88 consecutive plate appearances without drawing a walk, the longest active streak in baseball by a non-pitcher.

A unique promotion will put Pablo Sandoval in the spotlight Saturday when the San Francisco Giants host the Cincinnati Reds on the second night of a three-game series.
In response to a scoreless inning of relief in April 2018 in a 15-6 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the veteran infielder's major-league pitching debut, the Giants scheduled a "Let Pablo Pitch" bobblehead night for an obscure Saturday that figured to need an attendance boost this May.

Sandoval takes center stage as Giants host Reds

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)  Derek Dietrich got Cincinnati a lead, and David Hernandez helped the bullpen make sure it held up.
Dietrich singled in the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning, Hernandez struck out five in two perfect relief innings and the Cincinnati Reds beat the San Francisco Giants 5-4 Saturday night.
