The Pirates and Rangers last played in 2016 in Texas, with the Rangers taking two of three games. Pittsburgh has gone 17-5 (.773) in interleague play since last season, the best interleague record in MLB in that span.

Pittsburgh has lost eight straight games after getting swept by the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The eight-game skid is the longest by a Pirates team since losing eight in a row from August 29-September 6, 2016.

Melky Cabrera went 4-for-5 with two home runs on Sunday against the Dodgers, extending his hitting streak to six games. Cabrera is slugging .506 this season -- the last time he posted a slugging percentage of .500 or better was in 2012 with the San Francisco Giants.

Texas won the final two games of its series versus Seattle to salvage a four-game split. The Rangers scored at least 14 runs in both games, becoming the second American League team to win back-to-back games by 13+ runs all-time (also the 1936 Yankees).

Elvis Andrus has picked up a hit in five straight games, with multiple hits in three of those five. Andrus has 14 multi-hit games this season, second to only Cody Bellinger (15 such games) league-wide.

After allowing one earned run in 17.0 innings across his first three starts, Jordan Lyles allowed four earned in five innings his last time out. Lyles' ERA stands at 2.05 this season, but he owns a career 5.17 ERA as a starter.

The Texas Rangers ended their losing streak in a big way over the weekend. The Pittsburgh Pirates hope to do the same thing when they open an interleague two-game series Tuesday in Arlington, Texas.
Texas pounded out 29 runs and 37 hits in back-to-back 15-1 and 14-1 wins at Seattle. That breakout came after a five-game losing streak.

Pirates bring eight-game losing streak to Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  When Bryan Reynolds led off the 11th inning with his first career homer, everybody on the Pittsburgh Pirates' bench erupted in celebration. They were all quiet by time the rookie rounded the bases and got back to the dugout.
''We were all like so quick to hop up and jump up and down, then someone said (silent treatment) and we all knew why,'' said Josh Bell, who came home and tied the score against the Texas Rangers with a two-run double in the ninth.
