The Red Sox defeated the Astros, 8-6, to take a 3-1 series lead. Last night's game was the second postseason game all-time where at least one run was scored in each of the first eight innings. The only other instance came in Game 4 of the 1993 World Series between the Phillies and the Blue Jays.

Boston's team ERA in this series is 4.75, compared to Houston's 5.91 mark. The starters have been relatively even (5.79 vs. 5.12), but Boston's relievers have pitched to a 3.63 ERA while Houston's bullpen ERA stands at 6.89. In the regular season, Boston's bullpen ERA was 3.72 while Houston's was the best in MLB at 3.03.

Jackie Bradley Jr. has nine RBI with two outs this series, one off Yogi Berra's single-series record of 10 in the 1956 World Series. The Red Sox are 58-12 (.829) in regular and postseason games when Bradley, who has gone deep in two straight, hits at least one home run. This is the third-best team record in a batter's home-run games since 1920, behind Red Rolfe (57-11) and Merv Rettenmund (56-11) (min. 50 games).

Alex Bregman has drawn 16 walks and knocked in 15 runners since the beginning of last postseason. Justin Turner (LAD) is the only other hitter to accomplish this, with 15 BB and 18 RBI over that span.

David Price allowed four earned runs over 4.2 innings in Boston's Game 2 win. As a starter, Price owns a 0-9 record in the postseason and is currently tied with Randy Johnson for the fourth-most postseason losses. The only pitchers with 10 or more postseason losses are Tom Glavine (16), Greg Maddux (14) and Andy Pettite (11) -- Pettite is the only of these pitchers with a winning record in the playoffs at 19-11.

Justin Verlander has won both of his starts this postseason, allowing two earned runs in each outing and throwing a combined 11.1 innings. The Astros have gone 7-1 in Verlander's last eight postseason starts, with their ace picking up a win in six of the seven decisions. Since 2013, Verlander's postseason ERA is 2.01, third-best among pitchers with at least five starts over that span (Bumgarner -- 1.22, Tanaka -- 1.50).

HOUSTON -- The dire moments are casually familiar for Houston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander, who many seasons ago assumed the responsibility bestowed upon a staff ace.
Verlander (2-0, 3.18 ERA this postseason) will make his second start of the American League Championship Series on Thursday at Minute Maid Park in Game 5 against the Boston Red Sox.
