 Gerrit Cole averaged 13.17 strikeouts per nine at home this season, best in the majors among ERA qualifiers. Only Jose Fernandez (13.24 in 2016) and Randy Johnson (13.66 in 1997) have averaged more strikeouts per nine at home in a season. Cole most recently pitched in the playoffs in the 2015 NL Wild Card game for the Pirates, allowing four earned over five innings, as Pittsburgh fell to Chicago 4-0.

 Carlos Carrasco led the American League with 119 strikeouts post-All-Star break, and his 2.52 ERA since then ranks fourth in the league (minimum 60 IP). Carrasco has made three career starts at Minute Maid Park, posting a 1.17 ERA and a 28-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 23.0 innings. Carrasco made his only career postseason start last year in a 1-0 loss in Game 3 of the ALDS, picking up the no decision after blanking the Yankees through 5.2 innings.

HOUSTON -- Much has been made about the opportunity at hand for Houston Astros right-hander Gerrit Cole, whose offseason acquisition bolstered an already strong pitching staff, one that helped the club claim the 2017 World Series before his arrival.
In Cole (15-5, 2.88 ERA), who is scheduled to start Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday at Minute Maid Park, the Astros have a pitcher fully capable of assuming the duties of an ace. Instead, Cole is slotted behind Justin Verlander, who carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the Astros' 7-2 victory on Friday in Game 1.

Astros' Cole brings playoff experience into Game 2 vs. Indians

HOUSTON (AP)  Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole have been even more brilliant in the playoffs, keeping Cleveland's powerful offense in check to give the Houston Astros a 2-0 lead in the AL Division Series.
Cole struck out 12 and walked none, combining with two relievers on Houston's second straight three-hitter in a 3-1 victory Saturday.
