The Royals have won two consecutive series -- with one more series win they will tie their season-best streak of three straight (min. two games). Kansas City's win percentage at the All-Star break was .284 but the team has played to a .463 percentage since (+.179), the largest improvement in MLB.

The Pirates have won five straight home games, good for the longest active streak in MLB. Pittsburgh will tie its longest home winning streak of the season with two wins in this series, the previous streak spanned seven straight wins between April 25 and May 12.

Corey Dickerson has scored at least one run in three of his past four games, including two in yesterday's win over Milwaukee. Since July 1, the Pirates are 16-2 (.889) when Dickerson scores -- in the NL, only Kike Hernandez's Dodgers (18-0) and Jose Martinez's Cardinals (15-1) have a better record (min. 15 games).

Whit Merrifield has scored 14 leadoff runs this month, while Adalberto Mondesi has scored 10 from the second position. Along with Alex Gordon's three runs from the second spot, the Royals have scored 27 runs this month from the first two lineup spots, tied with the Braves and Astros for the most in MLB.

It's all but over for the final statistical goal for the Kansas City Royals. One more loss -- whether it's Wednesday in a series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, or down the final stretch -- and "100" will pop up in the loss column.

Royals aim to delay 100th loss vs. Pirates

PITTSBURGH (AP)  Chris Archer came to Pittsburgh with much fanfare when he was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on July 31. Then he went 1-3 in his first eight starts with the Pirates.
It's almost certainly too late for the Pirates to make a playoff push this season, but on Wednesday night, Archer finally looked like the pitcher they thought they were getting at the non-waiver trade deadline. He pitched seven strong innings, and Pittsburgh completed a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 2-1 win.
