 The Indians split a four-game set at Toronto, winning the first and third games of the series. Cleveland has a 37-34 (.521) road record this season, worst of any division leader.

 The Rays outscored the Orioles 32-10 in a three-game sweep, slashing .359/.439/.621. The 32 runs, .359 batting average, and .439 on-base percentage are all season-bests for Tampa in a three-game series.

 Since 2014, Cleveland is 11-3 on the road against Tampa Bay. In those 14 games, Cleveland starting pitching has recorded 12 quality starts as well as a 2.11 ERA.

 Corey Kluber pitched 7.0 scoreless innings allowing two hits and striking out eight in his last start against Tampa Bay on August 31. In his career, Kluber has a 2.17 ERA and has averaged 10.83 strikeouts per nine innings in nine starts against the Rays.

  Francisco Lindor went 2-for-5 yesterday with a home run, giving him a career-high 34 this season. Lindor has hit 27 of his 34 home runs from the left side of the dish, but he has batted .371 as a right-hander this season compared to .257 as a lefty.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)  With time running short and so much ground to make up, the Tampa Bay Rays will probably miss the postseason. But they certainly look like a playoff team right now.
Ji-Man Choi hit a two-run homer off Brad Hand with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Rays beat the Cleveland Indians 6-5 on Monday night to set a team record with their 12th straight victory at home.
