 The Tigers have won five of the past seven meetings with the Twins, but they've dropped five of eight at Target Field since enjoying a 14-1 stretch at Minnesota from Sept. 15, 2015 to July 21, 2017.

 After taking two from Pittsburgh, the Twins have won 16 of their last 20 home games, and will be going after a season high-tying sixth straight victory at Target Field. Minnesota has batted .313 with six home runs and 11 doubles while averaging 6.20 runs during the win streak.

 The Tigers have dropped six consecutive road games and nine of their last 12 overall. They've already lost seven in a row away from home on two separate occasions this season. Detroit has batted just .176 and struck out 51 times while scoring 1.3 runs per game during its road losing streak.

 After hitting .207 in 70 games with the Dodgers, Logan Forsythe has batted .386 in 13 games since the Twins acquired him in the Brian Dozier trade on July 31. He's hit .349 with a home run and three doubles in his last 11 meetings with the Tigers and is 5-for-10 with a double lifetime versus Francisco Liriano.

 Detroit's Nicholas Castellanos has gone 7-for-13 with a home run, two doubles and seven RBI in his last three games, but he's 1-for-21 (.048) in his past five meetings with the Twins. Castellanos is 7-for-19 (.368) with two doubles lifetime against Ervin Santana.

 Niko Goodrum, who signed with the Tigers after he was outrighted off the Twins' 40-man roster in November, has gone 9-for-20 (.450) with four home runs, three doubles and nine RBI in his last seven games against his former team.

The rookie right-hander, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft allowed three runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Tigers on Sunday but made enough of an impression on manager Paul Molitor to stay in the rotation for another turn.

Minnesota rookie Stewart gets another chance for 1st win

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)  Ryan Carpenter turns 28 years old next week. The Detroit Tigers pitcher gave himself a nice early birthday gift on Saturday night: his first major league win.
Mikie Mahtook hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the fifth inning, Carpenter pitched into the sixth inning and the Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 7-5.
