The Pirates and Mets alternated wins and losses in their six meetings in 2017 -- the second year in a row they split the season series 3-3. Pittsburgh took two of three at Citi Field last June, plating 23 runs in its victories, and has won 10 of its last 15 there.

The Pirates were swept in four games by the Diamondbacks over the weekend, extending their losing streak to five games. During their skid, they've totaled five extra-base hits while striking out 53 times-- their most over a five-game span this season.

Starling Marte is 5-for-30 (.167) in his last eight games and is batting .192 in June after hitting .338 in May -- the .146 point difference is the third-largest drop from last month among qualifying players. In 16 games against the Mets since 2014, he is batting .170 (8-for-47) -- his lowest against any NL opponent.

Jameson Taillon allowed three runs and seven hits in 5.0 innings in Tuesday night's 3-2 loss to Milwaukee. The righty fell to 1-5 with a 5.08 ERA in nine starts under the lights compared to going 3-1 with a 2.82 ERA in six day games.

The Mets suffered a weekend sweep at the hands of the Dodgers and have lost their last six games. In yesterday's 8-7, 11-inning loss, they served up seven homers in a game for the fourth time in franchise history and have now surrendered 19 longballs in their last six contests -- the most the team has ever given up over a six-game span.

Michael Conforto has reached base safely in 13 consecutive games, compiling a .304/.411/.522 slash line, however, he is hitting just .162 at home this season compared to .289 on the road. That difference of .127 points represents the largest in the majors among qualifying players from road batting average to home.

NEW YORK (AP)  After bringing in Felipe Vazquez with his team trailing by two in the eighth inning, Pirates manager Clint Hurdle was asked by bench coach Tom Prince whether the closer would stay in the game if his turn to bat came up in the ninth.
''At the time, I counted off and said this is what the lead will be and I still think he's our best option to close,'' Hurdle joked. ''We would be in a good spot if we can get Vazquez up to the plate.''
