Cleveland swept Detroit in a four-game series in early-April, outscoring the Tigers 18-5 in those games. During the month of May, the Indians (.289) and Tigers (.288) have the third and fourth-highest team batting averages in MLB, respectively. The Indians and Tigers are tied for second in MLB with seven games of 10 or more hits in May (Red Sox have eight).

Despite having a sub-.500 record during May, the Indians offense has been potent. Their 88 runs ranks first in MLB, 128 hits ties for first and their 58 extra base hits ranks first.

Detroit most recently took two games out of three against the Mariners, and has not lost a home series since losing a one-game series to the Yankees on April 13.  The Tigers (along with the Indians) are one of only four AL teams to average at least one more run per game at home than when on the road in 2018.

Carlos Carrasco is the only pitcher in MLB to throw two complete games thus far in 2018. His first came in his only start against Detroit (9 IP, 1 R), his second was in his most recent start (9 IP, 2 R, vs. Milwaukee). He had 14 strikeouts in his last start, which he has tied just twice in his career, and topped once (15 K on Sept. 25, 2015 v. KC).

Mike Fiers is one of just six pitchers in 2018 to pitch more than 30 innings and issue five or fewer walks. In his career, Fiers has made four starts against the Indians, pitching 22.1 innings while allowing just seven runs.

In May, Francisco Lindor ranks first in MLB in runs (17), doubles (8), home runs (8), average (.473) and OPS (1.563).

DETROIT (AP)  The injury-plagued Detroit Tigers battled gamely against another top pitcher.
Niko Goodrum homered twice and drove in five runs, and Detroit beat Carlos Carrasco and the Cleveland Indians 6-3 on Monday night. It was the second straight day the Tigers won despite fielding a patchwork lineup. Detroit faced James Paxton and Seattle on Sunday and won that game in the bottom of the ninth. Then the Tigers made Carrasco's outing difficult.
