Since the start of the 2016 season, the Indians are 27-10 against the Tigers, the best record by any team against a single division opponent in the time span.

Detroit swept a three-game road series against the White Sox over the weekend. Last year, the Tigers only had one series sweep all season, a three-game sweep of the White Sox at home in June.

Cleveland took two of three games from Kansas City in its latest series. Dating back to last season, the Indians have won 13 consecutive series versus division opponents, tied for the longest series-winning streak against division opponents in MLB history (divisions started in 1969).

The Tigers are the first team in American League history, and the sixth in major league history, to play three 1-0 games in their first eight games of the season.

Detroit won on Sunday despite recording just two hits, both by Leonys Martin. The last time the Tigers won with only one player recording a hit was September 2, 1987 when Matt Nokes provided the only Tigers hit of the game in a 2-1 victory over the Indians.

Last year against the Tigers, Jose Ramirez totaled seven doubles, two triples, nine home runs and a .476 batting average. In MLB history, only two other players have reached all those minimums in a single season against an opponent; Joe DiMaggio in 1936 and Ted Williams in 1947, both against the St. Louis Browns.

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians aren't hitting much, but with the pitching they're getting, they don't need to hit much.
Over their last five games, the Indians averaged two runs per game -- but they've won four of them. That includes their wins over the Detroit Tigers on Monday and Tuesday by the scores of 2-0 and 2-1, respectively. The Indians only had four hits in each of those games, but their pitching has been sensational.

Punchless Indians hope to keep shutting Tigers down

CLEVELAND (AP)  Jordan Zimmermann was back in Detroit's clubhouse a few hours after being hit in the face by Jason Kipnis' line drive in the first inning of Wednesday night's 5-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians and felt fortunate to come away with only a bruised jaw.
''Obviously it could've been worse,'' Zimmermann said. ''It could've been a break, but it still didn't really feel that great. I'm sure it'll be worse tomorrow. I'll be good to go next time around.''
