Unless another club coughs up a large sum of money, centre-back Aymeric Laporte is set to remain at the San Mames Stadium for the foreseeable future.
Friday saw the 21-year-old defender renew his contract with Athletic Bilbao, as he put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2019 and that includes a hefty release clause valued at €50 million.
Laporte, whose previous release clause reportedly stood at €42 million, is regarded as one of the most promising centre-backs in Europe following an overwhelmingly successful 2013-14 campaign in which his 3.7 interceptions per game ranked second in La Liga.
He took to Twitter to express his happiness at the contract renewal, writing: "Happy and very content to continue pertaining to a club with as many values as @AthleticClub."
