England right-back Kieran Trippier could face a six-month ban after having to forcefully leave international duty Tuesday to attend a Football Association (FA) hearing over a potential betting ban, according to a report from The Athletic's Jack Pitt-Brooke.

The 30-year-old is set to answer for alleged betting breaches from July 2019, when he was joining his current Atletico Madrid side from Tottenham Hotspur.

The FA claims Trippier has left the England camp for "personal reasons" ahead of Wednesday's Nations League meeting with Denmark at Wembley Stadium.

"There is not a lot I can say about that really, it is not something which is in my control," England coach Gareth Southgate said. "So I've got to focus on preparing the team with the players that I've got available. This is another distraction, but I've got to plow on through."

The FA charged Trippier on May 1 for misconduct stemming from bets placed on his eventual move to Atletico. A group of Trippier's close friends allegedly placed a series of wagers following a What's App conversation.

"While a pro footballer, I have at no stage placed football-related bets or received financial benefit from others betting," Trippier said in response to the FA charges.

Former England international forward Daniel Sturridge was banned four months from all football-related activities for the same betting violations in 2018 after wagers were placed over a potential move from Liverpool to Sevilla. The FA initially pushed for a six-month ban for Sturridge before the suspension was reduced.

Without Trippier and Chelsea's Ben Chilwell, who withdrew through injury, the Three Lions boss is expected to opt for either of the present Arsenal players, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Bukayo Saka, to fill in at left-back against the Danes.
