West Ham United are ready to pay €50 million for Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez, but he is still deciding whether he should join Valencia instead, according to the Guardian's Jacob Steinberg.

Gomez appears to favor a move to Valencia, for whom he'd have the opportunity to play in the Champions League. The same can't be said for West Ham, who finished outside the European places in 10th last season.

Valencia reportedly agreed to sign the 22-year-old for €16 million and send Santi Mina in return, but after intense negotiations over the weekend, West Ham told Celta they'd pay the release clause in Gomez's contract while offering the player higher wages.

The Hammers have around a 50 percent chance of landing Gomez, sources told Steinberg.

West Ham's decision to sell Lucas Perez to Alaves and Marko Arnautovic to Shanghai SIPG has left the club with the funds to make a significant investment in Gomez, who scored 13 league goals for Celta last term.
