Portugal international Carvalho joins Real Betis
Paris, July 13, 2018 (AFP) - Portugal midfielder William Carvalho has joined La Liga outfit Real Betis on a five-year deal after terminating his contract at Sporting Lisbon, the Spanish club announced on Friday.
The 26-year-old was one of nine players to leave Sporting after they were attacked by fans during a training session following their failure to qualify for next season's Champions League.
Carvalho was part of the Portuguese side which beat France to win the Euro 2016 title, while he also played as Portugal were knocked out of the World Cup in the last 16 last month by Uruguay.
In a seven-year spell at Sporting, Carvalho made 191 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals.
Real Betis finished sixth in the Spanish top flight last season to qualify for the Europa League group stage.
