Julen Lopetegui can head into this summer's World Cup with peace of mind.

The Spanish football federation (RFEF) announced Tuesday it has renewed Lopetegui's contract until 2020, extending his stay as Spain's manager until after the next edition of the European Championship.

Lopetegui first took charge of La Furia Roja in 2016, replacing the retiring Vicente del Bosque after being dismissed by Porto earlier in the year. He quickly led Spain to a near-perfect 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, with a 1-1 draw against fellow Group G heavyweight Italy the only blemish in a run that saw the Iberian nation finish atop the group with 28 points and only three goals conceded in 10 matches.

The 51-year-old also previously managed Spain's youth set-up, leading both the Under-19 and Under-21 sides to European Championship titles in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
