Might Jose Mourinho dip into Manchester United's transfer purse in January?

He hasn't ruled out the prospect, at the very least.

The Portuguese tactician isn't the biggest fan of post-new year shopping, but admitted he wouldn't mind adding another piece to his roster during the colder days of the 2017-18 season, hinting the Red Devils might accelerate an otherwise planned summer move when the window opens in two weeks' time.

"I'm not a big defender of the January market but there are players and situations that sometimes you have the chance to do and you shouldn't lose that chance," Mourinho said, according to ESPN FC's Rob Dawson.

"I don't like the January market just to buy. But if you can buy one you would buy in June, with the chance a few months before, then great."

Manchester United has been linked to a number of talented figures of late, with Arsenal midfield maestro Mesut Ozil and Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann among those rumoured for Old Trafford, according to Dawson.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone isn't one for proving himself an obstacle, either -he told reporters Griezmann would certainly be free to depart the club if he found himself a "unique opportunity."

But, as expected, the wily Mourinho offered little apart from a touch of disdain when asked if Griezmann might be headed his way anytime soon.

"I don't speak about players, especially players who belong to other clubs."

Fair enough, Jose. Fair enough.
