Chelsea is reportedly eager to add to its Spanish core after turning its attention to Barcelona for reinforcements.

Just days after Alvaro Morata's arrival, the Premier League side is interested in acquiring another one of Spain's talented young players with the possible capture of Sergi Roberto, according to Peter O'Rourke of ESPNFC.

However, a formal bid has yet to be launched for the versatile Spaniard.

If Antonio Conte does decide to pursue the 25-year-old, Chelsea will likely have to match the £37.5-million release clause in Roberto's contract.

Roberto is capable of being deployed in the midfield but primarily featured last season as a full-back, a position Conte has identified as one of his top priorities this summer.

He wouldn't have to look far to find a familiar face at Stamford Bridge, as a move to Chelsea would see Roberto link up with compatriots Morata, Pedro, Marcos Alonso, Cesc Fabregas, and Cesar Azpilicueta

Roberto appeared in 50 matches last season, but is widely remembered as the hero who helped Barcelona complete its remarkable comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16 when he scored an injury-time winner - his lone goal of the season.

Although Victor Moses was Chelsea's preferred choice at right-back last term, it's understood that Conte is eager to add depth throughout the entire roster to offset possible injuries during a congested schedule as the Blues get set to compete in Europe for the first time in two seasons.

News of Chelsea's interest in Roberto comes after the club failed in its reported attempt to sign Danilo, who made the switch from Real Madrid to Manchester City over the weekend.

Despite splashing well over £100 million on summer signings thus far, a report Monday suggested that Chelsea is willing to spend another £250 million on boosting its squad as Conte's men gear up for their Premier League title defence.
