Israel to honour Jerusalem victims in World Cup qualifier

Israel will wear black armbands during Monday's 2026 World Cup qualifier against Italy, UEFA said, in honour of the victims of a deadly shooting in Jerusalem.

"Due to a terror attack in Jerusalem and murder of six Israeli people, Israel players will play with black armbands," European football's governing body announced.

Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a bus stop in east Jerusalem on Monday, killing six people and wounding several others.

The World Cup qualifier will be held in Hungary, where the national team have played matches since Israel launched its offensive in Gaza in retaliation for Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

Israel sit second in Group I with nine points, three behind leaders Norway and three ahead of Italy, who sit third but have played one game fewer.
