Milan, Jan 14, 2023 (AFP) - Cremonese sacked Massimiliano Alvini after Saturday's 3-2 home defeat to Monza which left them winless 18 games into their first Serie A season since 1996.

In a short statement, Cremonese said they had fired the 52-year-old and his coaching staff following an awful opening 18 games in which they have collected just seven points.

Italian media report that Davide Ballardini is in line to fill the vacant position.

Alvini had taken charge of Cremonese in the summer after guiding Perugia to the Serie B playoffs, where they were defeated by Brescia.

However, they are bottom of Serie A and eight points from Spezia, who sit just outside the relegation zone and play Torino on Sunday.
