Milan, June 9, 2022 (AFP) - Massimiliano Alvini will guide Cremonese in their first Serie A season in over a quarter of a century after previous coach Fabio Pecchia stepped down, the newly-promoted club announced on Thursday.

Cremonese did not reveal the details of Alvini's contract, the 52-year-old arriving after taking Perugia to the Serie B play-offs last season.

Pecchia shocked fans by resigning in May just after earning Cremonese promotion, before taking over at Parma last week.

Cremonese will play in Italy's top flight for the first time since 1996 next season after gaining automatic promotion alongside Lecce.

They will be one of five clubs from Italy's northern Lombardy region alongside the two Milan giants, Atalanta and Monza, who were promoted via the play-offs.
