Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of adding Cristian Romero to their ranks.

The Premier League club is expected to announce the center-back's arrival in the next 48 hours after reaching a €55-million agreement with Atalanta, according to James Olley of ESPN.

The reported deal is worth €50 million and includes €5 million in add-ons.

Romero is scheduled to fly to London to finalize the deal after undergoing the final portion of his medical Thursday, Olley adds.

Upon completion, the transfer will rank as the second-most expensive in Spurs history - behind Tanguy Ndombele's €60-million deal in 2019.

The 23-year-old is coming off a tremendous season with Atalanta, in which he was named the Serie A's defender of the year. He made 31 appearances for an Atalanta side that finished third in Serie A.

He joined Atalanta on a two-year loan deal from Juventus at the start of the 2020-21 campaign, a move made permanent in September for €16 million.

Tottenham have already completed moves for goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini and winger Bryan Gil this summer. But the club faces the prospect of going into next season without superstar Harry Kane, who is reportedly eager to depart this summer and has been linked with a transfer to Manchester City.
