It was only a matter of time.

Juventus captured a historic eighth consecutive Serie A title on Saturday, rebounding from their Champions League ouster by claiming a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina to clinch yet another Scudetto.

The comeback win, secured through a glancing Alex Sandro header and an unfortunate own goal from German Pezzella, gives manager Massimiliano Allegri his fifth straight league crown with the Bianconeri.

"I think that during these past five years we've worked well, the players have progressed," Allegri, who replaced Antonio Conte on the Juve bench ahead of the 2014-2015 season, said after the midweek defeat to Ajax. "Winning five Scudetto is not easy."

It's the club's 35th Serie A title overall; two other Scudetto triumphs, in 2005 and 2006, were revoked as part of the Calciopoli scandal.

Though there is undoubtedly disappointment around the club over the failure to break a lengthy Champions League drought - the lavish addition of Cristiano Ronaldo was made with continental silverware in mind - solace will be taken in the continued dominance on the home front.

The Bianconeri are the first team in Europe's top five leagues to win eight consecutive domestic titles, surpassing Lyon's record of seven straight Ligue 1 triumphs. They also equaled the mark for the fastest Serie A title in the competition's history, popping the champagne with five matches to spare.

On the whole, it proved to be a banner day for the Old Lady.

Allegri and Co. celebrated their win just hours after the Juve women's team locked up a second straight league crown of their own.
