Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella made history Saturday by scoring in his 11th straight appearance to equal Gabriel Batistuta’s Serie A record which was set in 1994.

The 35-year-old matched the record after converting a penalty to give Sampdoria a 1-0 lead over Udinese. He added another goal from the penalty spot in the second half.

The streak began when Quagliarella scored on Oct. 28 in a loss to AC Milan. Sampdoria's 4-1 loss to Roma on Nov. 11 was the only match in which he did not make an appearance.

In total, the Italian forward has found the back of the net 14 times to bring his league-leading total to 16 goals this season.

Batistuta set the record when he kicked off the 1994-95 season with a goal in each of Fiorentina's opening 11 matches. The Argentine legend finished as the league's highest scorer with 26 goals.
