AC Milan are on the verge of signing Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano reports.

Milan sporting director Leonardo reportedly met with Genoa officials on Friday to hammer out a deal.

Milan and Genoa discussed a permanent transfer worth €35 million plus bonuses, Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio adds. Another meeting will take place Tuesday to finalize the details.

Milan could also included midfielders Andrea Bertolacci and Alen Halilovic in the negotiations, according to Di Marzio.

Milan identified Piatek as a replacement for striker Gonzalo Higuain, who requested a move to Chelsea. The west London side reportedly agreed to sign the Argentine - who joined Milan on loan from Juventus - on a temporary deal earlier this week.

Milan paid an €18-million loan fee to bring in Higuain and had the option to make the deal permanent in the summer for an additional €36 million. However, after a strong start to the campaign, the 31-year-old faltered, going two months without scoring for the Rossoneri.

Higuain wanted to be reunited with Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, according to reports, and his wish was granted.

Milan appeared to set their sights on Piatek as soon as Higuain made his intentions clear. Piatek boomed to stardom in the first half of the Serie A campaign, banging in 13 goals in 19 league appearances to rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the scoring charts.

Piatek joined Genoa from Polish outfit KS Cracovia in June for a reported €4 million.
