Tottenham are through to the Champions League round of 16 after Brazilian winger Lucas Moura rescued a late 1-1 draw against Barcelona. The result also bumps Inter Milan down to the Europa League after they matched that scoreline against PSV.

Spurs entered the final matchday needing to at least equal Inter's result in order to secure progress to the knockout round.

The Premier League side looked to be in risk of elimination after falling behind early on Ousmane Dembele's seventh-minute opener. Tottenham's fears were alleviated some, however, when Hirving Lozano gave PSV a surprise 13th-minute lead away at Inter.

But after Mauro Icardi's fading header brought the Nerazzurri level in the 73rd minute, Spurs once again looked on their way out. Moura, however, buried from close range five minutes from time against a reserve-heavy Barcelona side, all but securing back-to-back round-of-16 appearances for his club.

Mauricio Pochettino's men will now prepare for the two-leg knockouts as runners-up in their group behind Barcelona. They will be matched against a winner from a different group, which so far include Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Porto, and Real Madrid.

Other heavyweights such as Bayern Munich, and Juventus could also be possible opponents if they secure their first-place standings following Wednesday's Champions League fixtures.

For Inter, the outcome was far from the preferred conclusion for Luciano Spalletti's squad, which was competing in Europe's premier club competition for the first time in seven seasons. But the demotion offers them the opportunity to erase the disastrous memory of their last stint in the Europa League when they finished fourth in a group consisting of Hapoel Be'er Sheva, Sparta Prague, and Southampton during the 2016-17 campaign.
